Why Did the Exodus Happen?
Learn all about God’s character through a major event in the history of Israel: the Exodus.
God’s people had been in slavery in Egypt for hundreds of years. But God had promised their ancestors that the people of Israel would have their own land someday. So, they cried out to God and he heard them and rescued them.
He used a shepherd and his brother to lead a nation of slaves in opposition to the most powerful ruler of the world’s most powerful kingdom.
In this world, there are a great many things to know. We can learn about algebra, art, biology, and even rocket science. But, no library of knowledge in this world is more important than knowing the one true God.

The Exodus | Theology for Kids
Our God wants us to know him. There is none like God in all the earth. He is holy, faithful, sovereign, our Savior, and all-powerful. God is always with us, always our caring provider, and always victorious. This is the story of the Exodus (the word means 'to depart from') and the people God led from Egypt. God used the Exodus event to teach his people who he is.

Christian History Matters for Our Kids.
History matters. Now, more than ever, we see how important it is for our children to know and understand history and the Bible. Here's why:
- God is the sovereign ruler of all things. It's important for our kids to see his hand in the history of nations and in the lives of both peasants and kings.
- Christian history is the story of our family history. Our kids get to see how people who love Jesus follow him.
- Understanding history can help our kids learn historic and biblical theology. They learn what the Bible says and what that means for us. They also see when the study of Scripture has taken important turns that have changed the Church.
- Reading Christian biographies and history can be a wonderful way for kids to think outside their own time and culture. God's Church spans centuries and includes people from every nation.
- Christian biographies help kids consider their own faith, walk with Jesus, and the impact their witness may one day have on others--and on history.
Elementary-aged kids need middle grade resources that are fun, a little sassy, and that teach valuable lessons.
The Who What Why Series is the perfect resource to teach your kids about history, while helping them apply biblical truths to their lives today.
Why Did the Exodus Happen? is not just the normal telling of the story of Moses, Pharaoh and the ten plagues. The author has organized the chapters by attributes of God (ie: sovereign, with us, all-powerful, holy). I’m thrilled to have a resource that goes so much deeper than the typical surface level teachings. Scripture quoted throughout is from both old and new testaments, helping my kids continue to grow in their understanding of how all is connected and pointing to Christ.
I just got done speaking at the MN Homeschool Mom Retreat about three things you should do to raise your children in the ways of the Lord and each of these books cover each of the points I made.
1. Exodus: Teach your children who God is. He is the faithful one who delivers His people. You can't trust someone you don't know and if your want your children to trust in the Lord then they have to know who he is. He is revealed throughout the story of the Exodus.
2. Moses: Share your testimony. Through Moses’ story we see how God prepared him to participate in His story. Use your story to show your kids that God is still relevant and active today. I think the way Who Was Moses was written can help others develop their personal testimony and see how God can use all things.
3. Tabernacle: Always point to Jesus. Ultimately Moses couldn't save the people. The judges and kings couldn't save the people. Not even the law could save the people in the way they really needed, in the ways we really need saving. Only the perfect, spotless, lamb of God could do that. He is the Way! He cleared the path where no veil separates us from God.
In my opinion these books are a must own! Don't put them on your wish list...put them in your cart and hit "purchase" because they are worth it!
Love this resource! Kids learn about the biblical account of God’s rescue of the Israelites from Egypt with a focus on what the events teach us about God — that He is faithful, sovereign, all-powerful, holy, and more! God keeps His promises and saves His people. Such a powerful message, and I particularly liked that the book explained how it all points to Christ and salvation in Him. The whole series is excellent and helps kids see how these events and ideas relate to their own lives, encouraging them to trust God and put their faith in Jesus.
As an aside, while you can read the books on their own and in any order, we liked reading the other two first (Who Was Moses? and What Was the Tabernacle?) and then this one, which pulls it all together nicely.
(I was provided a copy for review — All opinions are my own, and I really do love all the books in this series!)
Have you ever made a promise you failed to keep? Has anyone ever broken their promise to you? Danika Cooley’s book Why Did the Exodus Happen? highlights an important truth – God never breaks His promises. Not a single one. It highlights God’s faithfulness throughout a difficult time in His people’s history. It also shows how God used the Exodus to show people Who He is. He demonstrated His faithfulness, power, sovereignty, patience, love and care, and so much more through the events that transpired. And He demonstrated through Passover His desire to save and rescue us. The sacrifice He commanded then foreshadowed the ultimate sacrifice Jesus would later make once and for all time. This is an incredible book for helping kids learn about God’s faithfulness and His desire to save and rescue all people from their sin so they can live with Him forever.
Another wonderful book from Danika! She has a great writing style that makes it easy to read and understand the concepts! Love this book for kids of all ages! I love that she includes Bible verses and shows how it relates to our lives. The drawings are a wonderful addition as well! I would highly recommend this!
All scripture is useful for teaching, but some of the Bible's contents can be a little challenging for children to understand. This book helps students to better understand the Exodus, why it happened, the historical timeline, and some of the characteristics of God. It is a great resource to assist children in their study and understanding of the Bible.
Kids can learn about the Exodus of the Israelites in Danika Cooley's newest three books in her Who, What, Why Series. Who was Moses?, What was the Tabernacle?, and Why Did the Exodus Happen? Are easy to understand and perfect for children to learn more about God through the stories of His people and the Bible.
Danika uses the English Standard Version Bible to quote verses and she does an excellent job pointing kids to Jesus and His sacrifice for us with each book topic.
Each book has approximately 90 pages. There's no assigned number of pages for your child to read every day, so you and your child can take each book at his/her own pace. There are plenty of black and white pictures that go along well with each topic.
I love the free downloadable and printable lapbook elements that you can get for each book. They make the information really stick while the child does their hands-on activities. These lapbooks will be treasures for your child to look at in the future.
I highly recommend Danika Cooley's Who, What, Why: Exodus series to any Christian family that wants their children to learn more about the Exodus, and also to any children church or Sunday school teacher who needs a quick lesson and project.
