Help Your Kids Learn and Love the Bible

You want your kids to learn and love the Bible.
You want to teach the Bible...
As parents, we deeply desire the best for our kids. We look for the right schools, we make them eat right and exercise, and we get them involved in extracurricular activities. We take our job as parents seriously.
But are we also putting our time and energy into teaching them the Bible? Giving them the life-changing, soul-nourishing words of Scripture is not only doable, it’s an essential part of parenting kids for Jesus. And the good news is, studying God’s Word as a family doesn’t have to be difficult!
2 Timothy 2:15, ESV, says:
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
Our job, as parents who love Jesus, is to help our kids become approved workers, unashamed and rightly handling the word of truth.
The good news? Teaching the Bible isn’t hard. Your family can learn the Bible together.
...and you can!

Reviews from Moms Like You

"Help Your Kids Learn & Love the Bible by Danika Cooley is a phenomenal resource. She shares her passion for teaching our kids God’s Word with knowledge, simplicity, enthusiasm, seriousness, grace, and a bit of humor. It is hard to not become newly excited about helping my own kids fall in love with Scripture after even just a few pages of this book. I love the practicality and tips she offers in each chapter. She breaks it down for all ages of children, which is so helpful. Whether your kids are toddlers or teenagers, this book will equip you with the skills you need to start or grow your family’s love for the Bible." - Joy Wendling, Created to Play

"I’ve been reading what I think is probably the best book I’ve encountered on how to help kids grow a deep love, desire and knowledge of the Word, and I can’t recommend it highly enough! As a 20+ youth and children’s ministry veteran, I believe it to be a fantastic resource for use as children’s ministry leaders, but would also be wonderful to recommend to parents." - Anna Johnson, Homeschool mom, foster parent, children's ministry, former missionary

"One of my favorite things about this book is its authenticity. It is clear from page 1 that Danika is an actual homeschool mom who has actually raised her kids to love God and want to study the Bible. This isn’t a church scholar telling parents that they should read the Bible with their kids. It is a real mom telling parents how to make it work- even when the calendar is full, the baby is crying, and the kids are asking the hard questions." - Sarah Miller, Homeschooling 4 Him

"Danika’s book helps give parents a practical plan for studying the Bible together as a family. Consider how you teach your children other things in life. Teaching the Bible to your kids can be as natural as teaching them how to read. So, even if you didn’t grow up in a Christian home or a home that prioritized reading the Bible together, you really can do this well with your kids!" - Abby Banks, 4 One More / Homeschool with Moxie Podcast

"Sometimes we feel like we need a “teacher’s manual” to help us know where to begin. The mere thought of reading and studying the Bible with our kids can feel overwhelming and daunting. That’s where Danika Cooley’s book, Help Your Kids Learn & Love the Bible, comes in and helps us make the connection. It reads like the teacher’s manual we all long for, but in a fun and engaging way." - Danielle Papageorgiou, Lifeschooling Conference
"Do you want your kids to love the Bible? Are you concerned about your ability to teach it to them? Then you should pick up a copy of Danika Cooley’s book Help Your Kids Learn & Love the Bible from Bethany House Publishers." - Wendy, Ladybug Daydreams

"I love the great tips found in this book! We all learn differently and Danika explains how to get through to kids with different types of learning materials. By using art projects, snacks, acting out scenes, or other activities, kids will not only have a fun experience but a memorable one as well." - Amy, Healthy Happy Farm

"When I began reading Help Your Kids Learn & Love the Bible, I felt encouraged even after just the introduction. Well, first, I felt convicted that I had been using some excuses to keep me from reading the Bible regularly with my kids. But Danika gives a wake-up call to parents to pay attention to what really matters, and make time for meaningful, diligent study of the Bible with our kids." - Sara Radginski, Blessed Homeschool
"Help Your Kids Learn and Love the Bible from Bethany House Publishers is a valuable tool to equip parents to live your life like our Master did and to teach our kids to do the same. It is our job to teach Biblical truth to our kids and not just hoping the few hours at church they spend will prepare them to dig into the Bible and love it." - Renee, Little Homeschool on the Prairie

"What I love most about Help Your Kids Learn & Love the Bible is that it’s a very practical book. It’s perfect for both Bible-literate moms who have been believers for decades and for brand new Christian moms or those who don’t know much about the Bible at all. If you want your kids to learn and love the Bible, and therefore, to learn about and love Jesus, you should pick up this book." - Gena Mayo, I Choose Joy

"It was written with practical advice to guide and encourage parents in studying the Bible together as a family, but Help Your Kids Learn & Love the Bible is full of personal application, too. Danika shares tips on developing Bible reading habits and plans, engaging in meaningful conversations about passages that have been read, tools for memorization, how to get into the Word when your days are extraordinarily busy, and much more. This book is not a commentary on the Scriptures, but a helpful resource in learning how to study God's Word intentionally." - Jacinda Vandenberg, Northern Nester
"I recommend this book for any family that wants to teach the Bible in their home. It would also be great to use as a church to support families in their efforts at home. I am strongly considering trying to use it for a book study in our church, because I feel like many families struggle to make Bible time consistent in their homes, and it is vitally important that church not be the only place our children learn about the Bible." - Dawn Peluso, Schoolin' Swag

"I just finished reading this excellent book. Well done, Danika Cooley. This book is simple yet profound. It lays a convincing (and convicting) foundation for the importance of helping our kids love and learn the Bible and then proceeds to explain how to do that and offers practical solutions and creative ideas to help families get started. 5 stars ![]()

"I have good news for you, family discipleship does not have to be that complicated anymore. My friend Danika wrote an awesome book on child discipleship every parent should read. I’d recommend you give it to parents in your Sunday School class." - Ticia Messing, Adventures in Mommydom

"Ms. Cooley gives example after example of real-life situations and shows how they relate to the Bible. I loved one part where she talked about how a bank is like the Bible. It made a lot of sense to me. In other parts, she will tell stories about her children and relate them to learning the Bible. I think the relatability factor is honestly my favorite part of this book." - Erica Higgs, Adventures of Abby Girl

"Not only will a parent get practical tips, you'll also discover the big picture of the Bible. My favorite parts are the ones are how to be more consistent reading the Bible with your family, ideas about which translation to read, fun ways to memorize Bible verses and ideas to pray Bible verses." - Kerry Beck, How to Homeschool My Child

"I love how practical and tangible her advice is. She shares simple tools to make Bible study fun, interesting, and life-altering. The book is an easy read, with clear headings to guide you through the chapters." - Katie J. Trent, Grow Your Faith, Author of Dishing Up Devotions

"Do you have a child that is a mover? Or one that is an auditory learner? Maybe music is your child’s learning language. This is probably one of my favorite parts of the book. Danika shares ways to teach the Bible using the different learning methods of children." - Yvonne Billian, The Life We Build "The “Help Your Kids Learn and Love the Bible” begins with a healthy respect for the text and challenges the reader to first unpack their own feelings about their beliefs and how they would like to pass that knowledge on to their children. As a Christian with a highly educated worldview, I would like my son to both understand his spirituality and in the long run be able to defend and speak intelligently about his beliefs. Danika Cooley gives you gently guided baby steps to unravel all of that impossibility complicated text for a younger audience. This book is a self-help guide for you - not your children." - Mama's Sweet Baby
"You want to be more intentional about teaching scripture to your kids, but you don’t really have a clear path on how to go about it day by day? Help Your Kids Learn and Love the Bible will help!" - Richie Soares, Homeschool and Humor "Danika Cooley writes in a conversational and honest way about Christian parenthood and finding our way as we raise our kids. I appreciate her insights and her vulnerability about her own experiences. ...As a homeschool mom, she understands what it’s like to teach your kids — and not just the Bible. She references learning styles and different techniques to be sure that you reach your kids on their own unique ground." - Sara Jordan, Heart and Soul Homeschooling
I love this book, I love the practical principles it gives. I immediately started playing the Bible to my boys at bed time and now they ask for me to put it on. I am constantly going back to it.
I have a 7-year-old son, M, who along with his dad and I, learned that our youngest son, who was already called 'Little Buddy' by M, would be stillborn. M was only almost 4 at the time, but he knew what deceased meant. After that ordeal, and without knowing it, really, I quit mentioning God, didn't pick up my Bible. When I finally realized I was cheating Mason by checking out of all things Godly, I also realized that I had no idea where to start with telling M about God or how to answer questions I knew he would ask.
I looked at book after book and read a gazillion reviews, nothing seemed to 'speak' to me or about my situation. Then, I saw the book "Help Your Kids Learn and Love the Bible" in my feed on Facebook and when I read the description, I couldn't buy it fast enough!
This little book has seen some tears flow because, while it was intended to help a little boy know God, it helped his momma REMEMBER God. You absolutely cannot go wrong with this book. It's beautifully written, Mrs. Cooley explains everything that could need explaining clearly and in an easy-to-understand way. You won't read it once and put it on a shelf either. You will refer to it repeatedly when the conversations and Bible discussions start.
I would encourage anyone to get this book. With all the awful things that are taking place in this country, turn off the news and turn on your child's heart. Help Your Kids Learn and Love the Bible is like that needed conversation with a much wiser mentor.
This has been such a thought provocation! It is such a great read That challenges me to stop and think how it would work for our children, how to implement it in our family, which will look slightly different to your family…. This book and the awesome author has challenged us as we have begun to get Bible reading on track as a mostly daily habit in our family…8-15 year olds! Thankyou!!!
Loved reading this book! She explains step by step how to add Bible time into your child's life and how to deal with difficult Scripture passages. We've started implementing her tips and have seen great results in our 4 year old.
