Jesus told us to be the salt and light of the world. Help kids take a look at Matthew 5:13-16 with this salt and light craft and copywork!
The Salt and the Light
Read Matthew 5:13-16 as a family before you begin your craft. In the ESV, Matthew 5:13-16 says:
“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
As you make your craft, discuss:
- What is a food that tastes much better with salt? What is it like to eat food without salt?
- Christians change the world in good ways. Talk about some of the things Christians because they love God and love others that make the world a better place.
- What is the warning for us about being salty? How do followers of Jesus lose their saltiness when they become like the world?
- What is the purpose of a lamp?
- How do the good works you do for Jesus give glory to God?
- What is the thing people do not do with a lamp?
Talk about what it means when we say that our lives are a witness to Christ.
